My mother-in-law gave this book for Christmas because I am remodelling our bathroom. I love this book and I love my mother-in-law. They are both exactly what I need.
I bought a copy of this book back when Readers Digest back when it was first issued through a mailer they sent out before Al Gore was even in Politics much less inventing the internet. They might not want this book, then again if you're getting something repaired the easiest way to not get taken for a ride is to be able to discuss the problem with the repair person. Fixed Toasters, toaster ovens, rice cookers, even a Microwave, just all kinds of things.
I have used it to fix so many things, my Central Heater and Air Conditioning in the current house twice, my Mom's AC, etc. I really can't praise this book enough. Since then I bought a newer updated edition published in 1996.
I am buying one of these current editions and this is what I'll be giving to my Children and Nieces and Nephews when the occasion arises/ This is one gift that someone will (if they chose to) use and cherish for years to come. Fixed my Washing Machine and Clothes Dryer too many times to recount. Refurbished 3 old Sewing Machines, no wait 4, heck maybe 5 I don't really remember how many.
I know books like this aren't for everyone, some people don't want to fix things themselves, some just don't have the inclination, some can afford to just pay someone else to handle things or just buy something new whenever things start acting up. Just having the knowledge in this book can protect you when you do need to call a repairman if you have the unfortunate circumstance of getting someone who is all about profiting from the customers ignorance.
It contains information and diagrams to fix almost anything in your household. I purchased the Reader's Digest Fix-It-Yourself Manual for a gift to give my daughter and new son-in-law. I had also given one to my niece and nephew for their wedding. They married the day after Christmas. Since I own one myself, I know how valuable it is. It will be my traditional gift for newlyweds. It was delivered as promised and in great condition. Thank you.
This book came quicker than expected in EXCELLENT condition and I couldn't beat the price. It has a wealth of very useful information. I'm sure it will save me lots of money in the future, doing it myself.
Sounded like it was just what I wanted.not so. More than half of the book is stuff I didn't need or would never need. A very small part of the book had minor plumbing and electrical repairs.I needed a book with simple repairs to things around and in the home for someone who is single and needs to do a lot of stuff themselves.
